Hi everyone,
After several colleagues got laid off in the last few weeks, I decided to put together a short, three-week mini-course in my Zen@Work practices and principles for transition.
I especially want to help with the challenging feelings that come in the first month or two after a lay-off:
Loss of financial resource.
Loss of your “imagined future.”
Loss of sense of belonging.
Loss/shift in sense of purpose (potentially).
Loss/shift in sense of self/identity (potentially).
Loss of contract alignment (Self/Work/Other).
Zen has a lot to say about how to meet these challenges. And if you don’t meet them with clear-eyes and sound practices, you will likely get caught up in anxious, obsessive and ill-advised behaviors driven by the swirl of uncomfortable feelings bubbling through your body-mind. (That’s what we call suffering.)
I have shared this material with scores of people over the last year, with very positive results. (I put some testimonials on the registration page.)
More information below and on my website (blue button ^). If you trust my work, please forward to anyone you know who has recently lost or shifted their work.
take care,
Paul
A Transformative Catalyst for the Next Stage in Your Life
Are you in between jobs? Recently laid off? Seeking your next professional venture or work opportunity? Ready to initiate change?
This three-week group course will introduce a comprehensive program for change and the foundational practices to support you.
In the early stages of transition, we experience a unique form of insanity. Strong feelings such as financial worry, anger, fear, overwhelm, self-criticism, self-doubt, catastrophizing, and anxiety produce behaviors that are not conducive to our wellbeing, and lead to unwholesome career outcomes!
You might obsess over job boards, freak out about finances, lose intimacy with your partners, and subtly compare yourself to others (“I’m too old!” “Too inexperienced!” “My skills aren’t up-to-date!” “Hundreds of applicants are better than me!”). Left unaddressed, this temporary insanity will lead you to a new work situation based on your fears and not your aspirations & inspirations.
Your work transition should be one of the most enjoyable, transformative and empowering times of your life. In this mini-course, I will show you how.
Program:
Introductory Session: Monday, August 5th. Paul and participant introductions; review of course material.
Three Interactive Group Sessions: each session will include presentation of Foundational Practices and curricular material based on the three-phases of the In-Between.
Wednesday, August 7: Restore & Re-source (review your current “contracts” with Self, Work, and Other; uncover false beliefs; relax/review/reflect.)
Wednesday, August 14: Inspiration (write your new contracts; finding meaning, freedom and flow.)
Wednesday, August 21: Exploration (possibilities and “branching paths.”)
Concluding Session: Friday, August 23. Group sharing of learnings and successes.
All sessions are 90 minutes, on Zoom, and recorded for registrants.
At this juncture in your life, there is nothing to fear, and everything to be excited about. It does not matter how old you are, what your savings or severance are, or where you are in your career. You will thank yourself for discovering and living your truth!
